Innovation

My grandfather was the most creative man I have ever met. I think before MacGyver and the Duct Tape/WD-40 paradigm he was building nuclear subs out of fiberglass and chicken wire. My daughter amazes me how she can create her own little worlds out of ordinary things around her. While I agree that our education system has fallen behind when compared to other developed countries (I believe #18 at last report) the other, perhaps more important, factor is imagination.

I always had a vivid imagination and was never really TAUGHT to have an imagination. Not even sure if that's anything that CAN be taught. But in my experience innovation is 40% imagination, 30% education, and 30% perspiration. You have to be able to envision the new and unknown, you have to have the tools in your belt to transfer it to the tangible, and then the drive to actually make it happen.

I still believe in the greatness of America and in the imagination we all have just waiting to be unlocked.

Who holds the key?

New Title

Going forward, I will be focusing my blog on my life as I work towards running a 10-k in one year.  Or rather, in one year I will be running a 10-k.  I assume I could run a 10-k in 365 days today however I would like to have just a wee better time than that.

I've been in running shape twice in my life and both times never did anything with it.

Slow and steady - that needs to be my mantra.  I become so addicted to the runner's high that I end up OVER training and my butt eneds up in bed, then I lose my motivation, start pigging out, and end up worse than before.  I don't care about winning, I care about setting this goal, working towards it, and actually crossing that line...

Day one begins...

Reblog: Ladies and Gentlemen, I have been informed of a new benefit that has been organized for Aidan!

(Reposting a buzz from my friend Russell)

Death and Taxes, an independent rock band based out of Arizona, is releasing their first studio album, called Inevitable. They have agreed to donate $1 from every album purchase (digital and CD) to Aidan's NTAF account. They have also informed me that they hope to work something out as well with the purchase of singles when they become available. I will pass along more information about that when it becomes available.

CDs are currently available on pre-order for $9.99. If you purchase a CD during this limited time, the band will autograph it for you. Click here to place your order now! Click here if you would like to listen to a few of their songs before you place your order.

A few other links related to the band:

I hope you will make a purchase and thank Jay for this wonderful and generous gesture!

Blog from the ER

So I'm STILL at the Baptist Medical Center examination room. The knot in my jaw is worse, the pain is worse, and now my vision is getting blurry. On the POSITIVE side, the nurses are really nice (though I assume it's because they just started their shift.) *sigh* i wish Elliot and Carla were here and JD and Dr. Cox were going to cure me. Apple-tinis anyone?

Pray for Aidan

Read about a special little guy and the mom and dad that love him very much.  It's been a rough road for this family but they are always willing to do whatever it takes.

To my best bud Russell, you guys are in all of our prayers.

Earth Hour - 3/27/2010 8:30pm Local Time

This is a great opportunity to "Think Globally - Act Locally"!  Thousands, if not millions, of eart-conscious folks wil be turning the lights off, shutting down the Xbox or Playstation (and yes you crazy Nintendorks, the Wiis).  And yeas, for all you budget-friendly folks, saving the cost of energy during that hour as well.  So get your candles ready and enjoy time with your family.  TRUE time, without the bells and whistles of high-end entertainment systems and computers.  *GASP* Yes I will be doing this as well so get out there and DO IT!

Best... Phone... Ever...

HTC Touch Pro2 Unlocked Phone with 3G EURO Standard, 3 MP Camera--International Version with No U.S. Warranty (Black/Grey)As much as I loved my iPhone (long story) my Touch Pro 2 is the BEST phone I've ever had!! *sigh*

Anyone know of any GTD solutions for Windows Mobile?  I'm reading the book and it seems like just what I need to get my life in order (Outlook-wise).  I have my tasks, email folders, and calendar set up but it doesn't gracefully sync like I want it to.
David Allen should sell a GTD smartphone.  THAT would truly rock!

What drives me...

I know most of us have causes that inspire us and touch us in ways that make us cry and anger over a troubling issue in the world around us. Whether it is AIDS relief in Africa, breast cancer, birth defects, or even a homeless family abandoned by society, we all have that one spark within us that ignites a flame to shed light on a special charity.

Mine is Project 9Million through the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). This program provides, sports, edcuation, and technology to those refugees hardest hit - children.

I'll be posting more about this program as well as how I came to be involved but when you have a moment, please check out their websites:
